Public Montessori: Expanding Access to Excellence

Montessori is a time-tested educational model that has traditionally been available only to families who could afford private school. At Montessori Works, we are committed to changing that by making Montessori education accessible to more families in Delaware.

Currently, Delaware is home to two public charter Montessori schools: First State Montessori Academy in Wilmington and Sussex Montessori Public Charter School in Seaford. Our mission is to expand these opportunities by bringing a new public Montessori school to Kent County—ensuring that more children benefit from this transformative approach to learning.

Vision Coalition of Delaware: Student Equity and Excellence 2035

In March 2025, the Vision Coalition of Delaware unveiled its Student Equity and Excellence 2035 Plan. This bold initiative recognizes that career and life readiness extend beyond traditional academics. To truly prepare students for the future, the plan emphasizes critical thinking, self-determination, communication, community commitment, and overall well-being—alongside foundational academic skills.

The Vision for Student-Centered Learning:
“Every student, beginning at birth, has a right to a comprehensive, equitable education personalized to their unique needs, strengths, and talents. Designed with the capacity to give space for each child’s interests, passions, dreams, skills, and needs, education centers and empowers them as active participants in their learning.

Through a culturally proficient approach, students develop: a sense of agency or control over their own decisions, the capacity to set goals and plan for the future, a heightened curiosity and critical thinking skills to be life-long learners, and a sense of compassion and empathy to be engaged.”

Public Montessori schools embody this vision, providing an education that nurtures independence, curiosity, and a love of learning in every child.
